Motor Design and Modeler
A Python desktop app for designing and simulating solid rocket motors
| Platform | Desktop (Python) |
| Latest stable version | 1.5 (2022) |
Starting from grain dimensions, propellant characterization, casing, and desired chamber pressure, it calculates nozzle dimensions, simulates the burn over time, and evaluates the assembly's material strength. Includes a built-in library of propellants and materials, and can analyze third-party motor designs. Exports .rse files (compatible with OpenRocket) and PDF design reports.
Solid Motor Designer
An Excel spreadsheet for designing solid rocket motors, step by step
| Platform | Excel spreadsheet |
| Version | 5.0 (Alpha) |
The first tool I used to design solid rocket motors. Starting from grain dimensions, propellant characterization, casing, and desired chamber pressure, it calculates optimal nozzle dimensions, generates a basic simulation of motor behavior over time, and calculates material strength under load. Still useful today for teaching, since it shows every calculation step by step. Own work, influenced by Rocket Propulsion Elements and Richard Nakka's site.
Alpha version, in active development. Provided as-is with no guarantee it works correctly — treat it as a reference only.
